8.4. "Fanny Hill" de John Cleland

"Fanny Hill: Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (Fanny Hill, ou Mémoires d'une fille de joie)", roman érotique paru en 1749 et dont la publication causa scandale. A la demande de l'Église d'Angleterre, Cleland fut arrêté et inculpé d'avoir "incité à la débauche les sujets du roi". - Jeune orpheline originaire du Lancashire, Fanny Hill accepte l'invitation de son amie Esther Davies de la rejoindre à Londres où elle travaille dans la maison close de Mrs. Brown. Fanny, qui pense avoir été embauchée comme servante, apprend la véritable nature de ses futures activités en étant confrontée à son premier client, Mr. Crofts.
